Daytona
Another near perfect day but not without its challenges. We awakened to a gorgeous sunrise and found out why they call it mosquito lagoon. Ugh. Regardless it was worth it to get the sunrise pictures. And to watch the fish jumping and eating the multitude of bugs!
We had only one neighbor overnight and one fisherman in the early morning. How funny the pelicans were following him around waiting for the chum!
The trip to Daytona was long but full of surprises. So many manatees today that we had to slow down several times afraid we would injure them. Unlike dolphins they are languid in movement and barely surface.
Instead of McMansions there were fishing camps and trailer parks and ordinary boats (with ordinary people) on the ICW.
Arriving in Daytona required a quick trip under 4 bridges (one required opening). With few options for anchoring we chose just north of Seabreeze Bridge. Lots of shoaling required careful setting of our anchor. It took us two tries to get it set where we would be comfortable with the depth (7 feet) and the swing (stay away from the other sailboats and the channel). In the interim we could smell gas. What?!? So the dinghy needed a quick temporary job to prevent further spillage.
However the sunset was beautiful and there is no wind. The current is strong but low tide is gone, We should rest well tonight.
