City Ventures

Image
The sun came out this afternoon after lots of rain all day.  We took advantage of the miserable weather and headed to Tractor Supply and Walmart in Farmington.  Since we were running low on protein and fresh fruit and veggies and Paul needed nuts and bolts - to the "city" we went.   The trip down uneventful.  The stores were without crowds so we were in and out quickly.  The diner where we thought to grab lunch - closed forever.  (Mexican coming soon.)  Then to avoid the momma quail and her babies crossing Route 4, Paul jammed on the brakes and sent our cooler and food bags flying.  Ugh.  The eggs - unbroken and squished bread tastes better anyway. The afternoon - lazy.  I napped and read while Paul attempted to install our new router.  Instead of renting the router from Fidium with a monthly fee, Paul bought one off Ebay.  We are still waiting for customer service to call us back and help link our MAC address....

"Wildlife" in Rangeley

Image
While Paul measured, cut and hung the remaining roof panel I did a bit of landscaping and debris cleanup.  Frogs everywhere! The remainder of the morning Paul spent coming up with a game plan for the trim and the "loft" in the carport.  I did laundry, sketching and reading. And after lunch - a bike ride.  We chose to park near the town park and explore the side streets of Rangeley.  We were looking for a "gentle" ride. After a brief ride down Main Street (where there were too many cars and pedestrians), we headed to Pleasant Street.  We circled one block then tackled the hill.  The view worth the extra sweat! Lots of "wildlife". The ride downhill- awesome!  We circled another couple blocks before coming back to Main Street.                                                         ...

Oquossoc Day

Image
A bright but chilly start to the day.                                                All but the last (and most challenging) roof panel is in place. Oquossoc Day took place today.  Soooo many people.                                                    Lots of the usual vendors and one very odd table of antiques.                                                            Even a boat parade. And The Gingerbread House.  Originally sold penny candy and tchotchke, then an on again off again restaurant and now an annex to ...

Twilight in Rangeley

Image
It does not feel like summer here.  The high today - 67 degrees.  While cleaning the house this morning I needed a sweatshirt.  Tonight after my shower - sweatpants.   However, the sun does strike the back deck perfectly for several hours which is where I read and relaxed.  My biggest accomplishment - nursery pictures for Megan and TJ are complete!  (I wound up trashing and restarting one but I am happy with the final products!) Rangeley

Image
Another beautiful day in Rangeley.  Though the temp never hit 70, the air is crisp and makes working outside so much more enjoyable.                                                   The posts have been painted and landscaping finished.                                    The ferring install has been completed and is now ready for the metal roof. After another late night dining with the neighbors, our day started a bit later than usual.  Still, we accomplished our goal despite threats of rain and distant thunder (no real rain ever materialized!)  A dump run, a bike ride and a long jacuzzi soak completed our day very nicely! Cupsuptic Lake

Image
Our adventure today - kayaking Cupsuptic Lake.  We have done this excursion many times over the years and though I knew we used the dock in Cupsuptic Lake, I always thought we were on a river.  Apparently not.  But our path does take us to the mouth of the Cupsuptic River.  We always try to head upstream or against the wind when starting our journey and use the current and wind to return us.  Today we lucked out with both wind and current - the ride back was fast and the only paddling we had to do was to steer.  An absolutely gorgeous trip!  Lots of wildlife and most I caught on camera except the beautiful blue heron that flew directly over us.     This loon was not shy at all - he was only a few feet from me!                                                       Lots of Canadian...
