Down the Rabbit Hole (Holly Madison)

 This is not a book I would have normally picked up to read but boat life being what it is there is plenty of down time so..I picked it up.  Wanting to be a Playboy Bunny and the whole lifestyle is foreign to me, as is being famous and on stage.  However, reading about the insecurities and frustrations and mistakes and ultimate success was worth the read.  Here are my cliff notes:

Not surprised Hef was “dirty old man”, caring only for what a woman looks like and could care less about her “brains” and individuality;

Surprised he incited girls to be mean to each other and to “fight” over him – just makes him seem more pathetic;

Not surprised he was rude and nasty to girlfriends – seems he needed ego boosters as consistently as he needed other boosters;

Not surprised that the “fairy tale life” depicted in the media really did not exist;

Not surprised that some reality shows purposely casted people who would add fire and chaos to the set;

Surprised how many girls put up with it for material/monetary/publicity compensation;

Sad that women made to feel ugly and unworthy, belittled and degraded to a point where they believed it to be true;

Didn’t know who she was before starting reading;

Agree that what one experiences make you who you are, that without events occurring in the order they did, you would be a different person;

Agree that being able to depend on self leads to a fulfillment more meaningful than depending on someone else;

Agree that becoming self-aware of one’s own strengths, weaknesses, passions and purpose allows for healthy relationships;

Believe that writing about experiences can inspire others to change their behavior, outlook, goals to more positive and healthier choices.
