Doboy Island, Georgia

Last night the storm continued to our west for quite awhile.  I enjoyed it immensely (too far away to be a concern for us).

We left again early in the morning so we would be at Little Mud River with a MLW (mean low water) of 4 feet during high tide.  (Our boat draws 42 inches.)  We had 13 miles to arrive there at 11am.  No problem.

Not surprising the river was mostly surrounded by marsh and there were very few boats.  Plenty of dolphins, some of which were showing off by jumping out of the water.  Pretty cool!  (Unable to get pic, they are too fast !)

We anchored just after noon south of Doboy Island in Back River.  Seriously - who picks these names!  The reviews were a  little off.  It said good wind protection.  Ha!

The depth was good though and no one else around - so we dropped anchor.  We dropped more than necessary since the current is strong and unsure of our swing when the tide changes.  The forecast was for SE winds, moderate and no rain.  Ha!

As I was making dinner this is what I saw coming from the NW.

This looks like a circular attempt at something.  Lightning and thunder began and the winds picked up.  (Strangely enough Thunder by Imagine Dragons was playing in the background!  We almost always have music on from the time we anchor until dinner.)  We were inundated with and surrounded with frequent lightning, severe downpour and gusts in the 30s.  All electronics went in the microwave and power was shut to all but essentials.  Somehow we were spared.

Paul managed to eat dinner right through it all.  I had to wait until I was sure we were done with the worst.  Beautiful now and cooler.

I am not sure why the weather monkey in this area keeps getting the forecast wrong!  We have learned though to keep an eye on the sky, the current and weather updates.  Also more anchor chain is better!  When the electronics are in the microwave and there is  no visibility, the disorientation is scary.  Knowing the anchor was secure despite the white caps and wind gusts and we were not going to wind up drifting away or grounded in the marsh keeps me sane.
Tomorrow's forecast - high 88 with no precipitation and winds up to 10mph.  We'll see!
