Kingsley Plantation/Big Talbot Beach

On our way to the beach this morning we stopped at the Kingsley Plantation.  Located on the Fort George River it was way off the beaten path and required a mile+ drive down an unpaved road.  The grounds were really pretty but unfortunately the house was closed due to renovations.

Interestingly the barn was made of tabby brick. Burned oyster shells mixed with water, sand, ash and broken shells.

I found the slaves' quarters the most arresting and tragic.  Small and crowded together, I cannot imagine any comfort could have been derived from living there.

Our next stop was Big Talbot Island State Park.  Getting to the beach required a 1/2 mile walk through the forest.  The beach is known as boneyard beach.  The shore and waterline is filled with skeletons of oak and cedar.  Fascinating to look at but essentially unswimmable.

The kids tossed a football around for a bit then we headed to Little Talbot where the beach is friendlier for swimming and hanging out.

We enjoyed every minute of the last week with the kids but unfortunately we had to drop them off at the airport tonight.  Safe travels!💜
