St John's River
What a difference a day makes. Slight headache, no dizziness, no nausea so we decided to risk a trip to Walmart to replenish our cupboards after the kids departed. Besides dodging raindrops all went well. In fact it went so well that when Captain Kevin called to say there is a weather window, we jumped on it. What better way to find out if my vertigo will prevent me from continuing on the boat than by heading out on the water.
After passing under the Main Street bridge, which had to be raised for us to pass, and then the railroad bridge we entered the Ortega area of the St John River.
It was way better to look at Baptist Medical Center from the river!
Wide open spaces with little, almost no traffic, it was the perfect place to raise our sails.
Four hours later we were exhausted and feeling pumped. Captain Kevin was patient and helped us feel more comfortable. We tacked and gybed with differing wind speeds until both of us were able to perform the tasks easily. Our top speed with only sails - 9 knots. Top wind gusts = 30.5. I finally feel like a sailor. And the best part - no vertigo!
