Low Country South Carolina

This is an absolutely gorgeous area of South Carolina,  The roads are surrounded by marshes and wetlands that are alternately mud then flowing creeks depending on the tides.

We headed to Hunting Island, one of the barrier islands and classified as a state park.  Five thousand acres of well maintained roads, boat ramp, lighthouse, beaches and nature centers.  We walked a total of 5 miles in bits and pieces since the feel like temp in the low 100s again and the humidity was high.  Thankfully the clouds came and went and both the car and nature centers had air conditioning.

Unfortunately the lighthouse is closed due to safety concerns.  We had been excited to add this one to our list of lighthouses we have climbed.  :(

Very real like replicas!

Returning from the island we passed through Beaufort.

Beaufort is a cute little town that ran Dragonboat races today.  Though we missed the actual races we did witness the music and award ceremony after the fact.  An overwhelming community spirit in an annual event raising money for cancer patients in the Beaufort area.  Awesome!
The waterfront with swings (super comfortable!) and brick and a view of the ICW we hung out until the sun and heat sent on on our way.

As much as I enjoyed our day, I miss the boat.  I dislike traffic and traveling by boat we are surrounded by beauty.  I do not regret putting her up early though especially with the continued storms and the unrelenting heat.  I am looking forward to the next days headed north and picking random towns to explore!
