Pawley's Island, SC

Headed north this morning through the ACE basin.  Beautiful flat, wet, marshy, muddy, green area made up of the Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto Rivers.  Silent except for the multitude of birds.

We opted for the back roads to avoid traffic.  Being Sunday and hot and sunny, I figured there would be plenty of people headed for the water areas.  We guessed correctly and the traffic was minimal on Route 17.

We arrived on Pawley's Island with plenty of time left for the beach.  We even got lucky and found a parking spot only steps from the walkway.  Course it probably had something to do with the incoming dark clouds that were rumbling with thunder!  We ignored them.  There was no lightning so we figured we would enjoy the beach until then.  The water was clean, warm (82) and the waves plentiful.  It was perfect for "swimming".  Might as well say we went in the water and got wet.  And tossed around.

The clouds kept the walk bearable as did the wind.  We wound up walking almost the entire distance of 4 miles without noticing we were sweating.  (It was evident when we were back in the air conditioned car!)
It never did rain.  The storm circled and headed more north.  Again we are in the 30%.

Being in the 30% began in 2014 when we traveled to Alaska.  When planning the trip we knew that although August would be the warmest month, it is also the rainiest.  In the two weeks we were there, it barely rained and never once ruined an excursion.  We rented boats, rode a dog sled, walked, hiked and flew in a small plane.  All gorgeous and sunny.  The many guides kept repeating - "Only 30% of people see this without rain or clouds".  So we have adopted the saying when the weather goes our way!
