Skidaway River
We left Fred and Vernon River behind this morning. A hot, sunny day, we moved north through the twists and turns of the ICW by Skidaway Island. The homes on the river here in Georgia are vastly different then in Florida. In Florida there was a range from McMansions with yachts and pools to fish camps to modest homes and derelict homes and docks. There were many derelict boats left on the river that had to be avoided. Here in Georgia, the homes are massive and stately. They are surrounded by lawns and massive trees. The docks are elongated and the boats are more reasonably sized. We have seen few derelict boats.
There were many spots that were super narrow and felt like a slalom course trying to stay between the red and green markers.
The first attempt to anchor in Turner Creek was a fail. The second attempt seemed better. A narrow waterway, we thought we could do with less chain in the shallower area.
The dolphins came to welcome us.
And then after a game of cribbage, the anchor alarm went off!
We dragged and due to the extreme low tide and little room for swinging with the current, we decided to attempt elsewhere. We headed around a couple bends to a wider area and no other boats.
So far, so good. And we had a breathtaking sunset!
