W River Street, Savannah

An early start to beat the heat of the day was necessary with temps predicted in the high 90s and feel like temp of 100.  We headed towards the Savannah River along W River Street.  Made of cobblestones with great use of the original buildings, the area is inspiring.  I changed the photos to black and white to relate the historic feeling the area presents.

Thankfully the shops are air conditioned and there are benches strategically placed on both sides of the street (some were even in the shade!).
The shops were varied and there was plenty to look at in most shops.  We all managed to find something.  Kim - I can't wait to give you your birthday gift!  Maddy tried and liked pralines!

We walked along the river on the way back to the car.  Total miles walked = 2.4.   Not too bad considering the heat.

City hall has a 23K gold leaf dome.

A memorial to African slaves.

A memorial for WWII heroes.

A model of a liberty ship.

Check out this fake "dog" this guy installed to scare off the birds?  Hopefully he doesn't think it will scare off potential burglars!

A quiet afternoon on Quiet Time before we dine and head to the theater.  I am looking forward to live music and the ambience of a historic theater.
