Boat Zen

The longer we are in Lincoln, the harder it is to maintain my boat Zen.  The list keeps growing of things that need to be accomplished and I find we are trying to accomplish it all in one day without taking time to appreciate the beautiful days.  So, we have recommitted to getting “chores” done in the morning before the heat of the day and taking the remainder of the day for whatever!

A running list should keep us focused and jobs prioritized.  Many of the jobs have multiple steps and require patience to go slowly – the boat hatch screens and shades is taking way longer than anticipated.  (I will share when fully complete.)  The closet full of photo albums and loose pictures dating back to the early 1900s is mind boggling and requires short periods of sorting.  The many closets and basement that need sorting is manageable only in small steps.

In reflection of my developing boat Zen, I reviewed photos from prior to our launching in January.  At the time I was frustrated with the multiple delays but found ways to enjoy each day.  The selfies all reflect my peace in the moment.  The journey not the destination.  A mantra I need to keep to keep the Zen.  The journey for now is about organizing and purging to simplify my life.

The day we met Pete, the pelican.

Another hotel elevator after another delay.

The night after my car died and we spent hours waiting for the tow truck.

Another day of intense wind and storms, another delayed departure.

A jazz concert on the beach while we wait to leave Fort Lauderdale.

Another storm but a chance to walk on the beach and breathe salt air.

Another new air BNB for the night while we continue to wait.

Each day I will focus on the day.  The tasks will get completed, but I cannot get overwhelmed and forget the Zen.  To watch the clouds, watch the sunrise and sunset.  To read, to paint, to enjoy quiet time.  To enjoy the beauty surrounding me.  To enjoy family and friends.  Boat Zen = peace with solitude or chaos, same or new, alone or with others,  Accepting what is present.
