Life on land
I do miss the quiet of being on the boat. Here in Lincoln, the sirens and trucks and motorcycles are never ending. Even in Cumberland sitting outside, the noise from 295 filters through. I miss the sunrises and sunsets that are not hindered by houses, buildings or wires. I miss watching the dolphins and I miss Fred! No one sings to me in the morning. (Although the are quite a few cardinals in Cumberland.) My feet are protesting having to be shorn! I miss the gentle rocking especially when in bed. I miss the smell of the salt water.
I do love being with the kids. Helping them, sharing meals with them and playing cards. I do not miss the intense heat and humidity but am enjoying the cooler nights here. I am enjoying watching the groundhogs in the backyard. The dozens of bunnies that are bigger than Fenway and are not intimidated by him. I am happy to be cooking on a full size stove and oven. And unlimited water! Long, hot showers when my back is tight. Shaving with running water. Washing my hair more regularly.
Paul installed a hitch on Megan's car today. Actually he started it on Friday but left the wiring harness installation for today. A gorgeous day weather wise thankfully since it took all day. But it is now done and she can tow the kayaks or use the bike rack with the kids.
Of course I couldn't just sit so I relocated the "old" wood. The wood shed is 75% full of new wood so I started a small pile more near the house for the drier wood to be burned first. The tarp that has been covering the pile for a few years now was brittle, full of rancid water pockets and ants!
It didn't take very long and I enjoyed the remainder of the afternoon sitting on the patio in the shade reading John Grisham. I have been to the Cumberland library bookstore twice now since coming back and am slowly restocking my "library". At only $1 a book I should be resupplied quickly!
