Quiet Time

Today was exhausting.  I arrived for "babysitting" duties early.  The girls were in bed but not for long.  They were in fast forward all day.  Quick breakfast, dressed and teeth brushed and back in Lincoln by 9am.  What should have only taken an hour to pack the car for Maine, took 3 hours.  The girls spilled drinks, ate a second and third breakfast and managed to unravel about 50 feet of nicely wound rope.  They could not agree on putting their puzzles together and felt the need to prune the front bushes (with their hands).  Once the car was packed with everything but food, we headed back to Cumberland.

Fenway at this point was panicking.  He knows when the bags are packed, we are leaving and he whines and cries unless he can sit in the car and watch us.  He had to accompany us back to Cumberland.  With Scott working from home, the girls and I stayed outside.  They helped me weed, clean up fallen branches, sweep and swing in the hammock.  None of which went smoothly.  Bickering - who gets to sweep, who gets leg room in the hammock, etc.  Ugh.  When I asked Bri what I should do with them her response - "Maybe you should put us in the pool".  Seriously!  She tried to pass this off as a consequence of driving me crazy.

They actually entertained themselves for 3 hours in the pool with minimal bickering.  I just took toys they could not share away and all was good.  At least an hour of that time was spent picking up the dozens of toys they had scattered but they did work together.

By the time Megan and TJ got home the girls were tired, dirty from playing in the dirt pile wet with rain and hungry (they were so busy they hadn't snacked in hours).  Paul and I are exhausted.  A quick finish packing and we are on the road to Maine.  I however forget to pack charging cord for my phone so no pictures from today.

So I am dedicating this blog to past quiet times.  Times when the kids had us so tired we needed down time in the early afternoon.  Missed that today!
