Smalls Falls, Maine
After applying the second coat of urethane to the two walls in the bathroom, we headed to Smalls Falls for a picnic lunch and a hike. Sunny and in the low 70s, it was a perfect day to climb to the top. Too cold to swim though. With the water super icy, it has to be in the 90s for me to even contemplate getting wet.
Thankful Fenway had his harness and leash. He jumped in and would have gone down the waterfall if not for Paul's quick tug back to dry rock!
The area has always been a favorite of ours. Less than a 30 minute ride, it was a perfect distance for picnics and swims and hikes. A sure thing for tiring the kids!
Kaitlyn and Megan just chillin'We even hiked there in the snow. Me, Scott, Kevin and Megan
Favorite memory of Smalls Falls was in 1990. We had just purchased the property in Rangeley (Judy Bean Greene was our realtor) and decided to stop at the falls on the way home. It was October and the leaves were stunning, the air was crisp and we were on our way to fulfilling a dream.
My worst memory was when I was 16. Mom would take us to swim at the falls. There was a natural slide down but to get back up one had to traverse the sharp rocks. Unknowingly I had cut my foot on my way back to the top. The water was so cold, my feet were numb and I didn't notice immediately. When we sat in the pool of water to start the next slide down I wondered why there was red water. I hobbled back to Mom and thanks to the park ranger (I have never seen one there since) we had directions to a local doctor. In her living room my foot received 18 sutures. Good times!
The shelves have been installed and I have started filling them. Most of the bathroom is back together temporarily until we return in September to complete the remainder of the renovation. A successful long weekend with walks, a hike, a picnic, lots of quiet time, somme purging and some renovations. A dinner out, a Diva show and a run to the dump. Living our best life!
