The Light of the World Cross, Madrid, Maine

We are so blessed to have found Rangeley and made this our home away from home.

Last night on the way home from dinner in Phillips we stopped at The Light of the World Cross.  We have driven by the landmark so many times and watched it grow.  With lights on the crown and gardens it is hard to miss.  With a welcoming cabin open to guests, the inspiration and process of this cross was well explained in a folder.  With stained glass windows and a place to meditate the inside was surprisingly light, clean and airy.  The visitor log was full of names and blessings.

The memorial stands depict atrocities.

The cross is huge.  The cross itself is 50 X 675 X 336 feet.  The depiction of Jesus is in the center of the cross.  With carefully placed rocks and stones, there is definitely a likeness to his portrait.  The crown of thorns atop his head are sculptures inspired by ones seen atop a concentration camp wall.

There are gardens depicting wounds.  There are picnic tables and paths. And of course a beautiful sunset.  A huge effort from an individual providing inspiration and provoking thought.

Today I managed to get two coats of urethane on the top of the new bathroom shelves.  Low 70s and mostly sunny it was a perfect day to paint.  The back porch had direct sun most of the day providing quick drying times.

Paul, meanwhile replaced our water softener.  The old one, more than 30 years old, finally sprung a leak that could not be repaired.  Thankfully Amazon delivers - even to Dallas Hill Road!

Tonight Rangeley Friends of the Arts are performing a Diva Show!  Stay tuned for review and pictures tomorrow.  💖
