Woods, Yards and an Estate

Another perfect day for a brisk 3 1/2 mile walk through the monastery.  There is nothing as satisfying as starting the day with working up a sweat while catching up with a friend.

And then going to yard sales!  Although I actually buy very little (very little space on the boat and what is the point of purging if only to refill?), I find it immensely enjoyable to find the unique and weird and bizarre items people have come across in their lives.

His and hers fish platters.                              Actually, I find him a bit endearing!

Horse or alligator brush?  Alligator of course!

For only $3 these two can grace a bookshelf.

An army of liquor men.  Who knew?

And then all the animals one would want inside a home.

I assume this is a monkey?!?

                                                        Something for a budding pilot.

And the estate sales.  I almost feel like a voyeur walking through homes where someone lived and loved.  Where their story is only partially told through the items for sale.  The home we were in today must have been an amazing home with its Victorian furniture, elaborate chandeliers, cozy smaller rooms with short doorways and floor to ceiling windows and best of all - a fireplace in the kitchen.

Her wedding gown and veil, her "good" dishes that probably saw many parties and special occasions.

And then the random items.  What moved her (the house had a definite woman's vibe) to collect and hold onto these?

I want to thank my mom and grandmother for instilling a love of the search and finding the bargains.  And the time spent with Karen finding the treasures and reminiscing is of course priceless.
