Lazy Mom and Read a Book
If only I had known that the first Friday in September is National Lazy Mom Day! I never even knew this was a thing. Permission by the nation to be lazy? I'm in! But it needs to be advertised. I had no idea. Instead, I finished the third side of the pool fence today at Megan’s. Only 3 ½ hours, no bees but a miniature tree and poison ivy to cut back. And I am still purging the house in Lincoln. And packing for Maine.
I was a professional napper before retirement. Having worked second shift for many years I
would nap before my shift. Always an
early riser, I preferred getting things done before the rest of the world woke
up. Walmart is only tolerable when no
one else is there. Laundry on the line
dries better when hung early. When the
kids were little, they were not always on my schedule. Worst nap ever – I opened my eyes to Megan
holding out a “grape” asking if she could eat it. It was NOT a grape but a blown-up tick that
had fallen off the dog!!!! So
gross! And thankfully she woke me up to
ask!
One of my most favorite Mother’s Day gifts was a zero-gravity
lounge chair! I enjoyed napping in that
chair many times! Most by the pool with
music playing. I love that chair!
My only rule while napping – do not ask me any
questions. If my eyes are not open, I
will have no recall what was discussed or anything I was agreeing to. Nothing I say means anything if my eyes are closed!
I still participate in quiet time every afternoon but
hesitate to nap. If lucky I may sleep
until 5am but sometimes earlier. No nap
might mean a full night’s sleep.
For obvious reason there are few pictures of me being "lazy".
Me, Kevin and Megan 1998Again, if I had known it was a national lazy day I may have
postponed painting and settled in my zero-gravity chair and read a book! I need to start looking at the calendar in
the morning!
It also happens to be Read a Book Day. I am in the middle of a couple books. The last book I finished - The Women by Kristin Hannah was impressive. Well written about the women in Vietnam, I wound up reading the entire book in the 6-hour ride home from Maryland. Thank you, Sally!
Who gets to assign holidays? Seriously, Lazy Mom Day and Read a Book Day falls together? Genius! Now advertise it so more moms can take advantage!
