Alascattalo Day

Alascattalo Day.  Honoring Alaskan humor and named for a fictitious animal that is a cross between a moose and a walrus.  An animal that was bred during the Gold Rush by the miners.  Created as a response to a stupid tourist question.

Here are some of the animals we came across during our trip to Alaska.  There were no Alascattalos!

I don't know who he thought he was kidding by pretending to be a bush!

                                Reindeer were plentiful and wistful.

                                                                Grouse

                                                        Geese

                                                                Bald eagle snagging a fish

Salmon, abundant and despite his best attempts, Scott was
unable to catch one with his bare hands!

Super cute soon to be sled dogs.

These two ponies look like they have been gorging on something good.

Not technically an animal but does show Alaskan humor.

Blond grizzly bear mom and her two cubs strolling down the
main road in Kantishna National Park.

A visit to the wildlife conservation center where we witnessed
a moose with a skin condition,

an obese black bear with lethargy,

                                                and a mangy baby buffalo.

Goats with a unique climbing toy in Carcross.

A seagull who enjoyed our balcony on
the ship as much as we did!

                                                Lynx                                    Buffalo

                                                Baby buffalo

So many memories in so many places.

We heard from our project manager Lars today.  The break where the water was breaching our boat should be completed by Friday.  The plan is to put her in the water on Monday and if the fix is complete, then repair the hole they cut in the fiberglass.  By leaving the boat and returning to RI, I hope they are taking their time and doing the job right.
