Happy New Year

Fun facts about New Year's Day.

    - Today is Public Domain Day.  This is the day copyrights expire.  Publications from 1929 are now free for everyone to use and sound recordings from 1924.  Publications are free after 95 years and sound recordings after 100 years.  Who knew?  Of note this year - Popeye and Rin Tintin.  Duke University has a whole center dedicated to the study of public domain.  Their site explains all the intricacies associated with different types of authors - singular, corporate, dead or alive.  Crazy stuff!!

    - Today is also Dishonor List Day.  A list of words that are banished from use in 2025.  Lake Superior State University publishes the list every year.  Suggestions for next year's words can be submitted on their website.

This year's words:   Cringe, Game changer, Era, Dropped, IYKYK  (if you know you know), Sorry not sorry, Skibidi, 100%, utilize and period.  All considered annoying and superfluous in their present use.

    - Polar Bear Plunge Day.  I did it once on January 1, 2020.  It was on my bucket list and I was feeling brave.  One and done.  (Here I could say sorry not sorry but it's been banished!)

Hundreds of people at Sand Hill Cove to benefit Special Olympics.  2020

Exciting to anticipate a new year with so many things to learn, see and explore.  More adventures on  my bucket list (some I probably do not even realize are there).
