Gulf Stream Crossing

Awake and ready to go, we were on the move by sunrise.

                                        Leaving St Lucie Inlet.

The weather called for 2-4 foot seas with 5-8 knots wind from the north.  Not rough to start with rolling waves and 8 seconds between them.  So far so good.  A chilly start but we were so excited to finally be on the move!

Then the wind died to nothing and what little there was came directly behind us - no good.  We essentially stalled and used only our motors for way too many miles.  But the seas evened out and the ride was smooth.  And we saw a HUGE sea turtle swimming by the boat - so cool!

We put out a fishing line since we were moving slow enough and we were looking for some entertainment.

Yup - caught us some seaweed!

The blue of the water is a blue I have never seen and really doesn't come through the pictures.  I have never even seen it in a 120 count box of Crayola crayons.  I am calling it Mid-South Atlantic Blue.

And then the wind picked up, we started tacking a slightly different course and we are presently "flying"!  We are checking off so many boxes that are "out of our box".  Sailing at night.  Arriving at a new marina in the dark.  Deep sea fishing (though unsuccessful).  In the ocean with no land to be seen.

And the sunset!

Our arrival will be sometime after 11pm at the marina but the full moon is guiding us beautifully (radar and chartplotter also help!)
