St Lucie River
Our ducks are all in a row. Ha! (I know they are really pelicans but how cute are they?)
The weather is gorgeous - 80s, brilliantly sunny but just a tad too windy. We ventured out the inlet this morning and found 2-4 foot waves with only 2 seconds between them and some 6 foot waves that came too often. Wind 18 knots with gusts up to 25. We managed to raise the sails, reefing (making it smaller) the main and Paul practiced sailing in these conditions. Trimming sails, hanging on and trying to remember everything we have learned - exhausting. There is no way we want to do this for the 12-13 hours to the Bahamas. We will wait some more.
After tacking and heading back to the inlet, we decided to head up the St Lucie River and practice where the waves were manageable. Steering the boat with just the sails and no motor while Sunday boaters zipped around us - crazy! After a few hours we were ready for some quiet time.
The plan - redo all our reservations again (add another week here?) and keep watching for good weather and better sea state.
