Peck Lake
We arrived in Peck Lake, just south of Stuart by early afternoon. A gorgeous spot with a few other boats we anchored easily and prepared for the possible thunderstorms.
A gorgeous ride with enough wind to keep us cool although being on our nose, we were unable to raise our sails.
As we were coming around Peanut Island this morning there were multiple emergency boats blocking the very narrow channel.
The yacht had run aground and attempts were being made to free her. This is the same spot we watched a mega yacht run aground last year. The fact that people were "walking" on water should be a huge clue. While waiting for the channel to clear I had plenty of time to check out the surroundings. North side of Peanut Island Many of the derelict "boat houses" that littered the shoals
have been removed. These two are the only ones left apparently.
There were 8 bridges we had to traverse to arrive here. The first was 65 feet tall in the middle so we just drove under it. The next four open on a set schedule, either on the quarter and three quarter hour or the hour and half hour. If timed right they are in synch. We did not time it right and wound up waiting quite awhile at the last one. The last 3 open on request. Paul radios the bridge master and requests an opening. The really good ones can time it so we never have to slow down. I still find it funny when they call Paul "Captain".
The remainder of our ride was uneventful thankfully. We feel so much more confident then when we came through here last year. I dozed intermittently and am hoping with 24 hours of meds I will feel 100% soon.
Yes this is a hammock outside a restaurant.
