Scuba - Day 3
Today we went scuba diving in the canal where our boat is docked. With a maximum depth 0f 15 feet, I was pretty sure I was going to be okay. Getting onto the dive boat and donning our gear was a bit different than being in the pool. First, that gear is heavy! Thankfully Justin held some of the weight of my tank while I stood on the back deck ramping up to take my "giant step" into the water. But I did it!
Then we descended using the rope attached to the boat, equalizing while we sank. After a few moments of giving myself a pep talk, I was good to go. Then both of us had buoyancy issues. Up and down and having difficulty staying close to the bottom, not on the bottom and not stirring up the silt. Paul wound up needing an additional 6 pounds to stay under.
Then we proceeded along the stone wall , under the boats toward the corner of the canal. Fish, jellyfish, conch and lots of growth on the pilings and most of the boat bottoms. As we passed under our boat, Paul stopped to retrieve the Yeti and cover that went overboard a few days ago. Success!
We managed much better on the return trip under the boats. Less up and down and more observation. Now I really saw the jellyfish! Having been stung in the past - I stayed far away!
Chesla took some great pictures with my GoPro. There was no way I was going to be able to breathe, kick (without stirring up the bottom or kicking someone or something), move in a forward motion (not up and down), not bump into a boat or piling or jellyfish AND take pictures. Thank you Chesla! A successful dive!
Tonight we attended the first all inclusive bonfire dinner and show at the nearby Junkanoo Village Beach Club. (The first since Covid shut it down in 2019.) What a great event on a beautiful beach. BBQ that melted in your mouth, Bahama Mama drinks, clean bathrooms, a great DJ playing great music, games, dancing and Autumn, the fire dancer! Limbo, line dancing, musical chairs and other games that kept us moving and laughing. A huge bonfire with comfortable chairs with the moon - perfect. Paul even had a s'more!
