Goodbye Rangeley
A cold morning but bearable. It did feel strange to be closing the house for who knows how long. All canned goods, all food in the freezer and fridge and anything open, packed to come home. No cans of soda left behind (we had some explode once and break the shelf in the fridge!).
We stopped briefly in Farmington (Mardens- our new favorite store) and it felt warm! I walked Fenway without a coat (I did have a sweater on) and was not cold. 27 degrees!
By the time we arrived at Megan and TJs - balmy! 30 degrees!
Tonight I have taken my flip flops out of the closet and have used them to take Maddie outside. Except for the ice in the driveway - it feels good! 34 degrees!
Tomorrows temps in the 40s. It may not be a white Christmas but I am good with that!
The plan - food shopping and the beginning of cooking and baking for the holidays!
December 16, 2002:
Santa visited during our annual holiday party. And the odd holiday today is....
Barbie and Barney Backlash Day: Okay, if I cannot have the job of naming streets, lakes etc, I want the job of naming new holidays! Seriously who thinks of these things?!? The holiday is set aside to purge feelings of annoyance at kid's shows, games and toys.
Worst movie of all time that I still cringe when I hear the song Nutcracker - Barbie in the Nutcracker. Worst. Movie. Ever.
Best toy ever though - Barbie's camper. How many hours we spent with Barbie "camping.
Worst dinosaur ever - Barney. My kids watched and read a lot about dinosaurs. He was not even close to being legit. Megan actually hid behind my back at a parade once when "Barney" approached her to give her a high five. She was terrified. (Not Kevin though!)
Best song ever though - "Clean Up, Clean Up". Every time I sang it, the kids would clean up their toys.
My thoughts for extraneous holidays:
Old Photo Day ( at least 50 years old!)\
Mark Wahlberg Day - so many movies, so little time!
Superfluous Kitchen Gadget Day - tomato shark? Lettuce shredder?
Memory Lane Day - converse with a senior and learn how they adjusted to changing times. (This one is inspired by my time as a Girl Scout leader. We had visited an assisted living and when we asked about their lives and talked about Memory Lane - one older woman asked "Where is that? I think I lived there once!")
These are off the top of my head after a long drive in the car. Give me a raise and I can be much more inventive!
