Ocean Hammond Park

With an extra day and half before we splash, there is time to wander and explore.

First a sunrise on the beach after a brisk walk in the cold, icy, slippery morning.  Low 40s required a sweatshirt.

Then after a quick breakfast, attack the To Do list.  High of 68!  Lose the socks and sweatshirt and bask in the sun!

    1.    A very specific shopping list for proteins.
    2.    Check all lockers for dampness, mold.  Luckily only the locker with our dock lines and a couple fenders leaked.  I pulled everything out, sprayed everything down with vinegar and the rain tomorrow should rinse everything nicely.  The lines are spread on the trampolines to dry afterwards.
    3.    Helped Paul with his list.

Paul:
    1.    Changed out the rope that pulls the mainsail bag zipper open and closed.
The old rope was very, very frayed and
threatened to break during a critical time.

The new shiny yellow rope slides beautifully!

    2.    Re-inflate the dinghy.  This was a great leg workout for me!
    3.    Raise the dinghy back into place against the boat.
    4.    Fix the lifting block that snapped when securing the bottom of the dinghy.  The pin flew to who knows where in the grass but Paul had a spare!

                                                                    Broken

                                                        Not broken

The dinghy is secured with four rope pulleys.

One on either side of the bottom.

Two pulleys up high attached with heavy chains.

    5.    Ordered a new steaming and deck light for the top of the mast.  Since the electrician will be up there, we figure he can replace the malfunctioning one.
    6.    Add a new item - fashion a new backing to the dinghy to minimize water intake over the stern.  Stop at Home Depot to pick up materials.

Call it a day early.  Behind the boat we have been watching people walk, ride bikes and can hear and smell horses.  So, we decided to check it out.

The park is not very large but definitely worth the visit.  St Augustine has many horse drawn carriage rides and we found where the horses live - adjacent to this park.

Then we ended the day with a trip back to the beach for a walk in the sand and see the sunset.  Back in sweatshirts and though the sand was cold, I stayed barefoot.

The plan - church, grocery store and more To Do best we can with rain predicted.
