World Logic Day
We have finally "landed" in St Augustine. After a good night's sleep, we were ready to start the remaining leg of our drive. Cool temperatures (39), clouds and intermittent rain followed us south.
And because it is World Logic Day, everyone on the road was driving politely and reasonably. Not.
: three trailers on a trailer on a truck being towed by a massive tow truck (could be a new tongue twister!),
: a motorhome towing an extra large Harley Davidson trailer, weaving in traffic and passing oversized vehicles in a construction zone with lanes that have been narrowed,
: multiple police, both in cognito and in plain sight, with speed traps all along Route 95 and no lack of "customers",
: an Audi that thought passing a South Carolina State trooper car at more than 15 mph over the limit was okay until the trooper's lights went on (we were doing 5 over the limit and watched everyone hit the brakes when they realized the trooper was mixed in the traffic),
: a car with its engines smoldering after the firemen arrived and extinguished the fire,
: a GMC SUV with front tires so much larger than the rear tires - the nose of the car was at a 45 degree angle upwards,
: many, many "trucks" towing campers, trailers and boats that were obviously too large for the towing capacities (we made sure to put them safely behind us),
: a boat on a trailer listing sideways by itself in the breakdown lane.
And we found the perfect camper for Megan!
It reminds me of the VW bus I learned to drive on as a teenager.
Here it is sitting in the garage of our home at the time.
Same blue and white coloring! Now if one of those was
towing that camper - absolutely priceless!
Anyway, the drive wasn't bad at all. Instead of trying to limit my water intake (and thereby stopping less often), I decided to drink my normal amount. Last night I wound up with a headache which I attributed to dehydration. Today no dehydration and I feel great! Yes, we had to stop more often but so be it. I also managed to cull, sort and edit many, many photos on my laptop. I am just over 41,000.
After checking in to the hotel, we traipsed through Publix for a couple things - yogurt, wine and bananas. We had time to kill since neither of us were hungry. And then we passed the deli. BBQ chicken already cooked and hot. Yup. Forget eating out - we were going to have dinner and a movie at the hotel. We convince the clerk we really are members of Publix despite not having a valid phone number and he gave us their discount. Yea!
We arrive back at the hotel, head to the room and cannot find the chicken. What? I obviously left it in the carriage. So we head back. No carriages had a BBQ chicken hanging out. Paul headed back in, grabbed another and back to the register. Ha! The clerk had our chicken! He never placed it in the bagging area. He was very apologetic but I felt better knowing we were not so senile that we left a chicken in the carriage!
World Logic Day - practiced all day!
The plan - head to the boat in the morning and start the process of readying her for our third season!
