Marc, Me, Karem, Mom and Molly May 28, 2021 in Newport, RI
I so needed this share! Thank you Marc for reminding me about a great trip, warm weather and good company! We need to do this again soon! Today was such a challenge.
The forecast - wrong again. But we were headed to Farmington regardless of the sun. Paul had left eye pain and felt like something (a piece of metal shaving) must have lodged itself there. So an ER visit was necessary.
We arrived there at 9am and it was quiet. (A word I never, ever used when I worked ER because then the flood gates would open!) Despite the major construction Paul was seen, treated and released in just over two hours. Yes, he had a corneal abrasion and a microscopic piece of metal on his iris. (How that doctor could see it - amazing.)
Onto Mardens store. We are still looking for stain for the back deck and more of the outside lights we love on the front porch. No luck and too many people.
Onto the Farmington Diner for a quick lunch. Originally situated over near University of Maine at Farmington and McDonalds, it was a frequent stop of ours during the build back in 1991. Now located almost two miles south but still on Route 2 (since 2018) this is our first time at this location. Fast friendly service and the BLT and corn chowder I had - perfect. (Paul had eggs and toast - boring but he enjoyed.)
Our view during lunch.
I found a great article about the "old" diner.

Our last stop - Walmart. Paul had his eye antibiotic to pick up. Fiasco. He wound up paying full price because they could not figure out his BCBSRI. (I would have waited but Paul had reached his limit!) Our list included spray paint, oil and filter for the Atlas (no filter available after 15 minutes of Paul searching) and simple groceries. The aisles were clogged with scooters, workers filling their "pick up" items and the worst service dog I have ever encountered. He stood in the center of the aisles and needed extreme coaxing to allow a passby. And of course they were in many of the aisles I happened to be in! We finally just left the carriage in a central location and ran up and down the aisles to grab our items. And the check out!!! Only two thirds of the self checkouts were functioning. Worst 45 minutes of our day!
Two plus hours at the hospital - seamless and calm. 45 minutes at Walmart - ready to scream.
I drove home admiring the gorgeous sun, minimal traffic and great scenery. Quiet time with a movie and popcorn and I have sufficiently recovered. I have sworn to avoid that stupid store on a Friday at the end of the month and am also considering "Pick up" service.
Word of the day - quankadoodled. Meaning when reality itself seems to "lose the plot" mid-process, and what should have been straightforward becomes unnecessarily complicated, oddly comedic and slightly cursed in outcome. Kind of how I feel our trip to Farmington went today.😣
